So I Snuck Off to Ireland and Got Engaged

Hey guys.

You may have noticed that Cactus Hugs wasn’t getting updated much over the past couple of weeks and that is because I was enjoying some time off in one of the most beautiful countries in the world: Ireland.

Seriously, look at it!!!

That is a real place (Kylemore Abbey) and there are no filters on that picture. That is exactly how it looks.

Now being in a place like this, I thought it might be a good time to ask a question to a certain someone that I have been pondering for quite some time.

KK and I cliffs

I proposed to Kristen at the famed Cliffs of Moher. I figured that if she said yes it would be a nice place to do it, and if she said no then she could do it by just tossing my over the giant cliff. Luckily, she said yes…

For those of you who do not know, I met Kristen during the course of hosting a morning radio show. She was co-host #378 for me during my 13 years in radio in The Coachella Valley. Little did I know, she would be the last one I would have.

From day one, she was great to work with. We instantly connected and had a blast working together – all while putting on a morning show that was listened to by what I can only assume to have been dozens of people.

Our relationship started rather oddly as we chose to keep it a secret as we had a hunch our co-workers and management wouldn’t look to kindly on us being together…and we may have been right.

When we did come out there were “secret” betting pools on when we would break up by the other DJ’s, lots of dumb rumors, and one manager who felt that they “could never trust us again” due to us not coming forward about our relationship sooner (this manager later was heavily involved in our employment being terminated.)

A good test to see the strength of your relationship is for both of you to get fired, on the same day, right before the holidays. Stress, depression, shock, anxiety – all mixed in with family gatherings and Christmas presents you already bought with no paycheck coming in can be a bit dicey on a relationship. But we got through it together and, in the end, the whole experience just made our relationship that much stronger.

Sorry to get all sappy on you, I know this blog is normally 9 parts sarcasm to 1 part news, but so many of you have been a part of our lives over the years – that I just wanted to pass along the good news and thank you all for your support.
