Thieves struck Veterans Memorial Park in Desert Hot Springs once again, this time stealing part of a statue honoring the men and women who have served this country in the military.

Less than four months after thieves took medallions from the park, someone made off with the marble top of a monument in the park.

“It hurts. It hurts a lot because of all the boys who passed and died so they could have all this freedom. It’s almost pathetic that people don’t realize what we’ve all done,” VFW commander George Mader told KESQ.

The city plans on replacing the stolen piece of the monument.
