John Wessman would like his corruption case to be held in Indio

Attorneys for John Wessman have asked that the corruption case against him, developer Richard Meaney, and former Palm Springs Mayor Steve Pougnet be moved from Riverside to Indio, reports the Desert Sun.

In a court motion, Wessman’s attorneys argue that it would be more appropriate and more convenient for the case to be prosecuted at the Larson Justice Center in Indio, the criminal courthouse closest to Palm Springs. The Palm Springs courthouse, across the street from City Hall, only handles civil cases.

An attorney for Wessman said the case should be in the Palm Springs area since many of the witnesses and evidence are in the Coachella Valley.  The proposed transfer will be discussed in court on May 19.

And, you have to admit, they kind of have a point, though finding potential jurors who are not biased against the three men in this town – especially those that have to drive by that terrible downtown Palm Springs monstrosity every day – could prove pretty difficult.
