Fontana Police are looking for a man they say tried to kill his wife and set fire to three homes.

Police say Matthew Rice, 37, broke into a home shortly before midnight on Tuesday and tried to shoot and kill his estranged wife with a shotgun after confronting her and a male friend, reports ABC 7. The woman was able to run away and Rice fled.

Wednesday afternoon, the woman got a call from a neighbor who told her that her house was flooding. Police believe Rice returned to the house and tried to set it on fire. He also drove away in the woman’s car.

Shortly after, police were alerted to another home that they say Rice attempted to set on fire, charring the front door. The house belonged to the man who was with the woman from the previous night’s attack.

Police then learned of yet another attempted arson, this time in Rancho Cucamonga, at the suspect’s in-laws home. All three arson attempts happened between 3 and 4 pm according to police.

Authorities warn that Rice may be armed and dangerous. They believe he may driving a 2014 white Chevrolet Cruz with the license plate 7HGK307.

“We are extremely concerned based on his actions,” Fontana police officer Jay Sayegh told KTLA. “It’s absolutely insane, he is running around basically at this point, he’s wanted for attempted murder, home-invasion robbery, several acts of arson, as well as assault.”
