A 19-acre plot in Cathedral City might soon be home to a gigantic marijuana growing facility.

The huge center would be built near Date Palm and Ramon, which is currently open desert, and would encompass 500,000 square feet – which is nearly nine football fields! – though only 350,000 square feet would be used to grow the Devil’s lettuce.

In a video about the project, Sunniva Cheif Operating Officer Duncan Gordon says that the facility would produce 260,000 pounds of cannabis every year and would employ 195 people.

“We have a Canadian publicly traded company called Sunniva that is looking at Cathedral City to put in a world class, high-tech, medically grade cannabis cultivation center located in that particular 19 acres,” Chris Parman, communication manager for the city of Cathedral City, told KMIR.

He added that the company would be building a state-of-the-art facility.

If completed, the city believes the center would bring in a whopping five million dollars a year in additional tax revenues every year.
