Driver flees after crash takes out power pole, cutting electricity for thousands

Thousands were left without power on Tuesday night after a two car accident ended with a power pole being knocked out of commission and thousands of Cathedral City homes without power.

The collision happened at about 4:45 pm on Tuesday near Ramon Road and San Eljay Avenue, reports KMIR. There are not many details about the crash, other than it was two cars – one of which ended up hitting a power pole, knocking out power for over 2,500 customers.

One of the drivers fled and the other driver suffered moderate injuries.

Power was restored for all but 327 customers within about 20 minutes. The remaining customers had their power restored about two hours after the accident, according to the Desert Sun.

Police are investigating.
