Driver dead after being in 2 accidents, 30 minutes apart, on Highway 62

A woman is dead after police say she was killed in a car crash Tuesday night in Morongo Valley –  the second collision she was involved in a span of 30 minutes.

The first accident happened at 8:50 pm on Highway 62 at Park Avenue, reports KESQ. The woman, who was driving a red Toyota Corolla, hit another car and then fled eastbound on Highway 62.

The woman then turned onto North Star Trail until, for unknown reasons, she made a U-turn and headed back to Highway 62 where she failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic while crossing the Highway and was t-boned on the driver side by a Jeep, according to Z 107.7.

The passengers of the Jeep did not suffer any injuries. The driver of the Toyota was taken to the hospital where she died Wednesday morning.

Police determined the woman was under the influence of drugs and alcohol and are investigating the crashes.
