The Desert Sun wants Journey to play Desert Trip 2017

Weekend Two has not even begun, yet the local newspaper is already talking about next year – if there is a next year – and, well, their suggestions for artists are, ummm, mostly not good.

The newspaper does not mention Steely Dan in their wish list, even though Donald Fagen has already said they have been asked to do it, but they do include Springsteen and U2 (sure!), Depeche Mode and The Smiths (dafuq?), and Journey (nope!) – and here you thought ticket prices couldn’t get any lower.

Note: If somehow Journey is booked, I hope the promoters demand that they do a live recreation of their video for “Separate Ways” – which many will look back on one day as the single greatest music video of all time:

Some of these choices from the Desert Sun would most likely cost Goldenvoice far, far less money to book than this year’s roster – which might leave enough extra cash to get Led Zeppelin to play in 2017 .

And if it means we all have to listen to “Open Arms” in order to hear “Stairway to Heaven” at the Empire Polo Club in 2017 – so be it.
