Desert Hot Springs man arrested in possession of body armor, sawed-off shotgun

Desert Hot Springs Police arrested a man after finding multiple illegal weapons in his vehicle Sunday morning.

27-year-old Edwin Ortiz-Martinez was pulled over for vehicle code violation on Second St. about 9 am, reports the Desert Sun. Police had been doing increased patrols in the area due recent criminal activity.

Authorities discovered that Ortiz-Martinez was wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. A search of his car turned up a a loaded pistol magazine, a loaded stolen handgun, a loaded sawed-off shotgun, body armor, ammunition, and heroin.

Martinez was arrested on eight charges, according to KESQ: prohibited person possessing firearm, prohibited person possessing ammunition, carry concealed weapon, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a loaded firearm, possession of a sawed-off shotgun, posession of controlled substance and posession of drug paraphernalia.
