A 16-year-old Jeep Cherokee held a big surprise for border patrol agents in Salton City Thursday: 30 pounds of cocaine!

The drugs were seized by El Centro Sector Border Patrol agents at the Indio station checkpoint in Salton City.

From The Desert Sun:

A Border Patrol dog sniffed out the drugs, found under a rear bench seat in a 1999 Jeep Cherokee, officials said.

The cocaine was contained in 12 aluminum foil-wrapped packages that together weighed 31.1 pounds. The contents tested positive for cocaine with an estimated street value of $404,300, officials said.

Anyone else find it weird they always give the street value?  I would have no idea how much cocaine is going for if they stopped giving this information.  Not that I am buying cocaine or anything.  Anyhoo..

The driver of the jeep was arrested.
