It Was a Big Day For Mall Cops at Westfield Palm Desert

For mall cops, a typical day at Westfield Palm Desert is not very exciting…

But that was not the case Monday, as things got a little crazy after a 21-year-old man was suspected of shoplifting items. The Press Enterprise has the details:

Sheriff’s deputies got a call at 1:33 p.m. that a man was walking through the mall and stealing items from stores.

When mall security tried to stop the man, he fled and jumped over the wall on the north side of the parking lot, according to a Riverside County Sheriff’s Department news release.

But our heroic mall cops were not having it.

Alleged shoplifter Matthew Charles Stewart was not able to escape. KESQ reports:

Palm Desert police officers showed up and spotted Stewart in the parking lot. According to a release, the suspect was running toward JC Penney when mall security guards tackled him in front of the entrance.

Job well done Westfield mall cops!

Thanks for keeping the mall safe for us.
