2 people stabbed in Coachella while looking for stolen bike

Two people were stabbed early Saturday morning in the city of Coachella while they were searching a neighborhood for a stolen bicycle.

Police were called about 2:50 am to Las Palmas Street, according to a news release. When they arrived they found a 30-year-old male from Thermal and a 28-year-old female from Coachella suffering from stab wounds. The victims told officers they were confronted by a man while looking for a stolen bicycle in the neighborhood.

The suspect and the make victim began to argue and it soon turned into a physical altercation. The female victim tried to break up the fight at which point the suspect pulled out a knife and stabbed them both. The victims fled in a vehicle driven by a friend.

Both victims were later take to a hospital. The man was admitted to the hospital with undisclosed injuries and the female was treated and released.

The suspect was arrested at the location where the fight occurred and was arrested for attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
